Product Description

Low-pressure die casting

This process provides excellent internal mechanical properties because the filling is very controlled.

The central feeding with the possibility to multiply the pouring attacks are particularly suitable for the production of sand-core and complex parts.

Advantages

1.Very good strength values

2.Complex geometries possible as sand

cores can be used

3.High dimensional accuracy

4.Whole process well-suited to automation

5.Less complicated machine and die technology

Disadvantages

1.Slower casting cycles

2.Minimum wall thickness approx. 3 mm (in die)

How it works

A sealed furnace holding molten metal is placed below a die with the desired mold shape.

Pressurized air, typically between 0.5 to 8 bar (7.25 to 116 psi),is applied to the surface of the molten metal in the furnace.

This pressure forces the molten metal to rise slowly and steadily through a riser tube into the mold cavity from the bottom up.

The pressure is maintained until the casting solidifies, which helps feed the metal to compensate for shrinkage.

Once cooled, the die is opened, and the finished part is removed.

Key benefits and applications

High-quality parts:  The slow, turbulence-free filling process produces parts with excellent density, mechanical properties, and a fine microstructure.

Good surface finish: The process results in good surface smoothness and dimensional accuracy.

Reduced defects: Minimal oxidation occurs because the metal is submerged and protected by a blanket of gas, and the slow filling prevents defects like cold runs.

Applications:  It is commonly used for casting high-performance aluminum parts, such as wheel rims, suspension/chassis parts, and electric motor housings for the automotive and energy industries.

Comparison to other casting methods

vs. Gravity Casting:

Low-pressure casting is more expensive but produces denser parts with better

mechanical properties due to the use of pressure, which also minimizes oxidation.

vs. High-Pressure Die Casting:

Low-pressure casting is slower and less suitable for mass production, but it creates Low-pressure casting is slower and less suitable for mass production, but it creates  uses much higher pressures and is better for producing large quantities of parts.

The material used is A356,T4-T6 heat-treated.
